How to Write your Own Song

Being able to come up with unique lyrics could be very tricky and easy is not a word to define it. The secret of create a perfect song according to most popular composers is to create it right from the heart. However, writing lyrics of a song is neither rocket science nor a magic trick. Composing lyrics is a skill that needs to be developed over time.

The wonderful thing is that creating lyrics is just like uniqueness of every individual. For you to be able to unleash that inner composer within you, here are some tips on how to make your own amazing song. Read on!

1.Bring out your muse.

In composing lyrics of a song, a lot of us begin with trying to congest what we want to address into a four or eight bars together with a number of rhymes with hopes of creating a hook. If luck gets into us, then we will be able to do this easily.

However, this kind of practice isn’t that recommended because this practice creates walls just before we start creating towers. One amazing tip is that you have to do a freehand writing. That is, you write anything that your mind would want to say without necessarily thinking about how the song lyrics would look like.

2. Practice makes perfect.

This is a cliché but just like any other clichés, this one works handy. The moment you wake up, together with your cup of coffee or tea, prepare your paper and pen and begin to write anything.

Write about almost anything your eyes would find. Write it in the most detailed way you can and don’t forget to feel free and be creative. Don’t think that you are about to make a song, instead, think that you are practicing your brain to write a song in the future and when that time comes, you will then be ready.

3. Choose a main topic of your song.

Once you have been able to do this, you are about to write the song that you want. Instead of picking anything in the room as your subject for your freehand writing, pick the reason why you are going to write a song. It could be someone that you love, or something that you care so much about. It could be concepts such as love or just simply riding a bus to a town.

Instead of worrying about four rhyming lines, command yourself to write a story of this subject and use all senses possible to describe that subject.

4. Develop your song

There are a lot of songs that narrates a story while others are simply small vignettes that is centered into a unitary theme. When you have already worked your way throughout the writing exercise, you probably have a sense on to what direction your song is headed to. When you choose your song to be a story, get it all out through the exercise. If its vignettes, then write a number of short stories that revolve on a central topic and another story that revolves on the topic itself.

5. Combine the central points of the song

This means that when you have chunks of ideas written over a piece of paper, put all of these together and listen to it. However, never overdo this because you mind end up putting a 20 minute song and that’s too much. After this, voila! You have a unique song lyric that is incomparable to others.

If you realize that song-writing isn’t just for you, you might want to try doing some things such as putting up your own house and build its own fences– anything at all. But if you want to give it a try then explore the beauty of composing songs!

Sell Out

Fire chief, car thief, misled skinhead,
Tell me where it's at?
Is it cool to bring it up again?
Will I blow my act?

Misplaced tinselface, weekend pretend,
Am I on your track?
I would love to live close to you,
Could I bring my cat?

Cowgirl, sailor,
Do you know who you are?
Cowgirl, sailor,
Do you know who you are?
Do you know who you are?

Overfed premed, outfront gaspump,
Will I fix my car?
Pinch yourself when I smile at you,
Baby, I'm a star!

Turned on, tuned in, cop out, sell out,
Do you know who you are?
I took the time to try to fit you in,
Was I off too far?

Cowgirl, sailor,
Do you know who you are?
Cowgirl, sailor,
Do you know who you are?
Do you know who you are?
